M6 Closed Due to HGV Fire

We were called to attend a fully loaded burnt out articulated vehicle on the M6. Our incident manager arrived on scene to find both the tractor unit, trailer and load completely burnt out. Liaising with the fire officers on scene, we dealt with the whole job from start to finish, including load clear up and recovery of both burnt out trailer and unit to our depot.

Driver arrested after Eddie Stobart lorry stuck under railway bridge in Longton

The driver who got his lorry stuck under the railway bridge in Longton has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.

The 49-year-old man misjudged the height of the bridge over King Street, in the town centre, leaving the Eddie Stobart haulage vehicle trapped from about 10.15pm last night.

Police were called to the incident and oversaw the three-hour recovery operation to release the vehicle.

Officers have since arrested the driver and are appealing for any witnesses to the incident to get in touch.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: “We were called just after 10.15pm to reports of a lorry stuck under the railway bridge over King Street, opposite the Crown Hotel.

“A 49-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of driving over the limit and he remains in custody.

“The lorry was recovered by approximately 1.30am. Network Rail and British Transport Police were also informed about the incident.

“Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call Staffordshire Police on 101, quoting incident 799 of December 8.”

New JPW Commercial Rescue Vehicles

New Vehicles

As part of our continued expansion we have further increased our fleet of vehicles.

New to the fleet is a Land Rover Defender TD5 equipped with front mounted winch and off road tyres

Land Rover

We have also purchased a new heavy recovery unit. The vehicle is a Volvo FH16 8 x 4 with a GTW of 150 tons. The vehicle is equipped with an NRC 50/65 SR sliding rotator with a maxi-reach underlift fitted. This specialised heavy recovery unit is fitted with 2 x 45,000 pound winches and 2 x 20,000 pound winches. Due to the design, the sliding crane can slide to the rear of the chassis even with underload. This makes for a very versatile piece of equipment with the extra reach created.

Volvo

The vehicle has been fully painted in our colour scheme, and alterations to lockers and equipment to suit our operation have been carried out in our own workshops.

We are very pleased with the performance of the vehicle so far, look out for photos of it in action shortly.
